What I am getting at is if I thread a shaft with 36" of thread on it using the gears and thread chart as from the factory just how accurate is the thread from one end to the other and how would I determine if it is. I have cut threads about 6" long with my current lathe and it did not bind but that was just one pitch and I think it was a 12 tpi. I began to wonder if I cut a thread for 36" on a shaft just how accurate is it over the full length of the thread. ![]() I have three of the combinations done now.Īfter a lot of thought as I did the math I began to wonder just how accurate the thread pitch is with the gears and chart on the lathe. So I made a chart on paper and started doing it with a calculator. I tried to use Excel to do the math conversions and using the book instructions for Excel I could not make it compute the change in ratio. I finially got around to making the charts with the gear combinations I have. ![]()
